Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago invites applications for a Parish Liturgy Coordinator at Christ the King Parish. The role oversees Sunday liturgies, holy days, weddings, funerals, and liturgical minister scheduling, with focus on recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers.

The successful candidate will be Catholic, deeply rooted in liturgy, detail‑oriented, and capable of leading teams with pastoral sensitivity.

Qualifications

• Practicing Roman Catholic with knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions.
• Great appreciation for liturgy and general knowledge about church worship (extensive experience and/or formal training and education in liturgy highly preferred).
• Ability to bring a spiritual and pastoral presence to the volunteers and congregation.
• Very detail-oriented and organized.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to take direction, provide leadership and utilize good time management and multi-task in a collaborative environment.
• Experience with project management and communications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and develop open, respectful, positive and cooperative relationships.
• Strong administrative and computer skills.
• Availability for weekends and evenings.
• Be sensitive to bicultural traditions North American, African, Asian and Irish cultures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, attends and chairs liturgy meetings often (every 6-8 weeks is recommended).
• Attends parish staff meetings.
• Present at special liturgies and Sunday liturgies as much as possible or as needed or requested by the pastor or his delegate.
• Administration of liturgical ministers: Train and oversee the responsibilities of the individual Mass coordinators for Sunday liturgies.
• Help Mass coordinators and group leaders schedule monthly liturgical ministers for Sundays masses and for other special liturgies.
• Create and maintain a database of current liturgical ministers.
• Recruit and train (as necessary) new altar servers and other liturgical ministers.
• Ensure that all extraordinary ministers of communion have been mandated.
• Oversee functions of all liturgical ministers, in collaboration with Mass coordinators and heads of liturgical ministries.
• Prepare and plan liturgies: Design and coordinates Sunday and seasonal/special parish liturgies, in collaboration with the pastor and liturgy committee, in particular the Mass coordinators
• Responsibilities include but are not limited to: designing worship aids, coordinating with presider(s) and other ministers on the logistics/structure of each (special) liturgy, ensuring sufficient ministers are present and instructed on what needs to be done, preparing binders for lectors, preparing presider guides, preparing anything needed for special liturgies (e.g., ashes, candles, holy water, etc.),
• Oversee general intercessions for liturgies, including for Sundays
• Work cooperatively with the parish Music Director on planning music for liturgy, as needed.
• Work cooperatively with the Lifelong Formation Staff in planning parish sacramental celebrations.
• Assist as a liturgical minister in parish sacramental celebrations, as needed.
• Coordinate and assist in church liturgical environment, including with parish maintenance staff (for decorations as well as ongoing needs – such as changing candles).
• Coordinate and assist the decorations committee with the liturgical decorations.
• Maintain the inventory of liturgical and related items in church and sacristy, coordinating with the Director of Operations and maintenance staff.
• Make check requests for liturgical celebration offerings/stipends when needed.
• Regularly communicate with the rectory secretary regarding the schedule of presiders for Sunday masses, Confessions, and other liturgies, (e.g., weddings, Funerals, Memorial Masses, anniversaries, etc.)
• Coordinate and assist the extraordinary ministers of Holy communion (Ministers of Care).
• Other tasks related to your role as needed.

• This position has a hourly range of $19.00-$21.00. An employee’s pay within the range is based on relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, location & business needs.
