Job summary

St. Louis JCC in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Part Time Lifeguard to supervise aquatic areas and provide safe, engaging experiences for all participants.

The role requires current lifeguarding and first aid certifications, the ability to perform emergency rescues, and strong customer service skills. You will lead group and individual swim lessons, monitor swimmers, and ensure a clean, safe pool environment across locations.

Qualifications

• Must have or obtain current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification or American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid.
• Ability to swim continuously and complete lifeguard standards.
• Ability to perform emergency rescues and use approved techniques.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid procedures during emergencies.
• Maintain visual/auditory surveillance and respond to emergencies instantly.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons (group/individual) and aquatics exercise classes with proper certifications.
• Start and end classes on time.
• Provide weekly progress updates to parents.
• Complete required records and reports (timesheets, accident reports, rosters).
• Maintain neat pool deck and aquatics office.
• Learn and follow all J policies and procedures.
• Maintain neat appearance and adhere to dress code.
• Be punctual and maintain good attendance.
• Attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.
• Maintain swimming skills, strength and endurance.
• Foster a welcoming environment for members.
• Learn programming and equipment offered by the J to better serve customers.
• Promote aquatics and other agency programs and services.
• Develop knowledge in aquatics through J-provided training.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisor.
