BluePearl Pet Hospital in Downtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to assist in our ER department on Saturday and/or Sunday.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in New York state.
• Emergency/ER experience preferred.
• Strong anesthesia, monitoring, and patient assessment skills.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Understand normal ranges for vital signs and alert Vet to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vitals; alert Veterinarian as needed.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical math and administer medications appropriately.
• Phlebotomy and placing IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers; address client concerns with empathy.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Downtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to assist in our ER department on Saturday and/or Sunday. This position offers part-time benefits and shift differentials.

Sched: Saturday and/or Sunday coverage

Pay: $30.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential

As a Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
