LIBRARIAN – PART-TIME

HARRY S TRUMAN COLLEGE

The Library of Harry S Truman College, one of the City Colleges ofChicago, seeks an innovative, collaborative, customerservice-oriented, technologically astute part-time librarian toprovide professional services to students, faculty, and staff. Thisposition is responsible for delivering a full range of services,including reference assistance, library and information literacyinstruction, and collection development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Staffs the reference desk, and assists all library users inidentifying and locating electronic and print materials, andsolving research problems.
• Provides information literacy instruction to students, facultyand staff in formats suitable to class, group, operational, orindividual needs.
• Must have familiarity with Internet sources and the ability tosearch online databases.
• Collaborates with staff and faculty in order to select newresources for the library collection, working within the approvedcollection development guidelines.
• Supports the acquisition, cataloging, and circulation oflibrary materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Library Science is required.
• Must be self-directed, innovative and able to assess currentoperations in an effort to develop practical action programs to improve the functioning of the department.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required with the ability to effectively interact with personnel at all levels(both inside and outside of the organization).
• Must be able to work well within a culturally diverseenvironment with the ability to handle all situations with tact anddiplomacy.
• Must be flexible, innovative and possess excellent analyticaland problem-solving skills.

Starting Salary: $23.37/hr. The rate paid is in accordance withCity Colleges approved salary scale.

WORK SCHEDULE

May require a mix of evening and daytime shifts. Schedule isdetermined every semester.
