Course Overview

Introduction to elementary school mathematics and its fundamental underlying concepts and structure, with an emphasis on problem-solving, logical thinking, use of conjecture, and exploration with concrete materials.

Course Objectives

Students will demonstrate mathematical and pedagogical proficiency through problem-solving, designing lessons, tasks and assessments, and performing student error analysis in the following content areas: Number Concepts/Sense Operations and Fact Fluency Place Value Concepts Strategies for Computation Fraction Concepts/Operations Problem-Centered Learning Decimal and Percent Concepts Ratios and Proportional Reasoning Measurement Geometric Thinking
