Jacksonville State University invites applications for a part-time lead teacher at the Child Development Center. The position supports a model infant - 3 year old classroom and runs from 7:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.

or 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for a group of young children. You will assist the director with planning activities, engaging families, and modeling evidence-based practices for observers, graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain children's files including progress reports, attendance records, health records.
  • Implement policies and procedures contributing to care, growth and development of preschool children.
  • Notifies CCAMPIS Co-coordinator of inventory needs and orders replacements as necessary.
  • Provide for the safety needs of the children.
  • Relate across cultural boundaries and collaborate with staff on curriculum and best practices.
  • Attend monthly faculty/staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Assist in preparing reports on the CCAMPIS program.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Read documents related to Child Development Center/Education to ensure compliance.
  • Report maintenance and equipment needs to CCAMPIS Co-coordinator.
  • Serve as a liaison to families updating them on the preschool and their child.
  • Develop and implement the curriculum and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Communicate with families on center and child updates.

Job Summary:

The part-time lead teacher will implement a model infant - 3 year old classroom for a group of children and provide support to the director with the following: planning and implementing appropriate activities for children, working with faculty and administration, working with families of young children, and modeling evidence-based practices in the classroom for early educator observers, graduate, and undergraduate students.

This is a grant-funded position, which is renewable pending the continuation of funds annually.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works to prepare and maintain children’s files including but not limited to progress reports, attendance records, health records, and parent locator sheet.
  • Implements policies and procedures that will contribute to the care, growth, and development of preschool children.
  • Notifies CCAMPIS Co-coordinator of needs regarding inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment; orders replacements as necessary.
  • Provides for the safety needs of the children.
  • Demonstrates the ability to relate across cultural boundaries.
  • Implements and maintains compliance with JSU and State Department of Education, and any necessary accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborates with other staff members on curriculum and best practices.
  • Attends monthly faculty/staff meetings.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in preparing reports on the CCAMPIS program.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Reads documents and material related to Child Development Center/Education, such as state and federal rules and regulations, state law, and professional publications, to ensure compliance with rules and to keep current in the field.
  • Reports any maintenance and equipment needs to the CCAMPIS Co-coordinator.
  • Serves as a liaison to families, updating them on the pre-school, classroom and their child.
  • Develops and implements the curriculum.
  • Designs developmentally appropriate activities for children
  • Communicates with families on both center and child updates
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire
  • Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to work outside of normal hours, which may include nights and/or weekends,
  • Must be available for travel within the state of Alabama.
  • Applicant must demonstrate use of sound judgment and the ability to remain calm during a crisis.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum and assessment.
  • Knowledge of NAEYC or Quality Stars experience
  • CPR Certification
