Nature of Work- This is responsible work serving as an attendant and caretaker at the City’s Impounding Reservoir and surrounding area. Work involves the proper enforcement of rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the use of the Reservoir and surrounding area and facilities. Work also involves ensuring the orderly conduct of citizens using these facilities. Work includes upkeep of the facilities, including grounds-keeping and building maintenance. Work is performed with considerable independence subject to controlling laws regulations, and ordinances and is reviewed through inspections and conferences for desired results. Reports directly to the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Coordinator.
Examples of Work- Instructs in safe boating practices and lake regulations; patrols lake to enforce water safety regulations, health and sanitation laws and to protect the public.
- Issues boat permits; collects fees; accounts for money collected; maintains record.
- Contacts local law enforcement when cases arise due to unruly conduct, littering, and instances of undesirable behavior; ensures orderly use of facilities; acts as prosecuting witness in case of arrest.
- Repairs, paints, and maintains equipment and facilities.
- Performs maintenance functions on buildings, grounds, picnic tables and benches adjacent to lake.
- Monitors lake level during flood conditions and reports status to the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Coordinator
- Removes debris from spillway area
- Performs related work as required
Minimum Qualifications of Work- Experience in grounds and building maintenance
- Knowledge of safe practices and related hazards of boating and other sporting activities
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of minor maintenance and repair to building, sporting and related equipment and facilities
- Knowledge of related State laws and local law enforcement agencies
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations and ordinances relating to safeguarding of the Reservoir.
- Ability to instruct the public in the proper use of boats and water safety.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials and employees and to deal with the public in a firm, courteous and pleasant manner.
