Job summary

The City of Farmington is seeking an Education Assistant E3 Museum to support the E3 Children's Museum. You will create engaging activities, facilitate exhibits, and run educational demonstrations for children and families.

This temp, part-time role requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. You will assist with programs, birthday parties, outreach, and visitor services, and help coordinate volunteers and promotional materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to communicate information clearly with children, families, coworkers, and community members.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established procedures.
• Ability to organize supplies, prepare activities, and complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to work with children of different ages and developmental levels.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and meet assigned deadlines.
• Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Experience working with children, families, schools, or community organizations.
• Experience leading educational activities, demonstrations, or group programs.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common computer applications.
• Experience providing customer service or working in a public-facing environment.

Responsibilities

• Create engaging, educational experiences for children and families through interactive visitor engagement, exhibit facilitation, educational demonstrations, structured programs, and informal learning opportunities.
• Prepare supplies and materials for educational activities, demonstrations, and special events.
• Lead hands-on educational activities for children and families.
• Explain science, art, and other educational concepts using age-appropriate language and demonstrations.
• Support school groups and facilitate activities for children of different ages and learning styles.
• Assist with developing educational programs and materials for permanent and traveling exhibits.
• Welcome visitors and help them feel comfortable in the museum.
• Answer questions and provide information about exhibits, programs, and museum activities.
• Interact with children and caregivers in exhibit spaces.
• Help visitors participate in activities and explore exhibits at their own pace.
• Provide support during birthday parties, school visits, and special events.
• Organize program supplies and maintain activity materials.
• Assist with event preparation, setup, and cleanup.
• Coordinate assigned event logistics, including travel arrangements, lodging, and reimbursements.
• Assist with recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.
• Assist with daily museum operations, including visitor services and the museum store.
• Follow established procedures for opening, closing, safety, and customer service.
• Maintain organized and welcoming program and exhibit spaces.
• Communicate with supervisors and coworkers about program needs, visitor concerns, and daily responsibilities.
• Develop promotional materials and social media content in collaboration with the City of Farmington Marketing Department.
