Summary

The primary role of the jockey driver is to transfer full and empty trailers between holding areas, the dock, and designated parking spaces, with regular rotation to other department positions.

Schedule

Part-time: Sundays 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate jockey trucks to transfer trailers to and from processing areas.
  • Process trailers in the order designated by management.
  • Maintain Yard Management System (YMS) updates and follow policies, keeping the yard organized.
  • Perform daily pre-operation vehicle inspections and manage refer unit settings in the yard.
  • Conduct yard checks twice in 24 hours, assisting vendors and service technicians.
  • Operate yard tractor computer and enter yard check data into the system.
  • Communicate effectively with gate personnel, dock office, and management.
  • Ensure seal integrity and report accurate case counts and product conditions during deliveries.
  • Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, including hours of service, logbook maintenance, vehicle and load inspections, and securing loads, utilizing electronic logging devices and onboard tracking systems.
  • Operate tractors and trailers safely and legally, complying with all applicable laws and company policies, including the use of safety features.
Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Requirements
  • Required: Valid driver’s license, reading and writing skills
  • Preferred: Class A CDL, strong communication skills, some computer skills
Experience

Preferred but not mandatory

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
  • Work outdoors year-round in seasonal temperatures, with noise exposure up to 96.2 dB; work involves handling wet and moist floors, metal and plastic grating surfaces, and temperature ranges from 28°F to 100°F with high humidity.
  • Handle products at 25°F to 50°F, with noise levels from 50 dB to 110 dB. Use protective equipment as required. May be exposed to vapors and gases, and need to stand for extended periods, lift 35-65 lbs, reach, bend, push, and operate standup lifts for long shifts.
