Job summary

Work Skills Corporation in Michigan is seeking a Job Mentor to support post-secondary students in an adult transitional program. You will help develop job readiness and technical skills, working at employer sites, classrooms, and virtually as needed.

The role runs 8am–2pm, Monday through Thursday, at a rate of $20 per hour. Candidates should have a high school diploma, reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and be able to pass a background check.

Job description

Job Mentors provide a valuable service by supporting individuals to effectively complete job duties and achieve long-term employment. This job involves working with post-secondary students (18-26) in an adult transitional school program to learn job readiness skills, soft skills, and the technical job skills needed to meet employment goals. Locations are in Walled Lake and surrounding areas at various employer sites. Mentors will be working with students at employers’ sites, in classroom settings in school, and through virtual support meetings as needed. Hours are 8 am to 2 pm, Monday through Thursday.

Preferred qualifications of a successful Job Mentor:

• Good problem-solving and organizational skills
• Experience working with individuals with barriers to employment
• Ability to identify the needs of the client
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles
• Positive mentoring and modeling skills
• Pass a criminal background check
• Must have reliable transportation
