Job summary

Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana is seeking a part-time janitor to maintain cleanliness in an office building and common areas in Indianapolis. Evening shifts include Mon and Wed 5:00 pm–11:00 pm, Tue and Thu 6:00 pm–12:00 am, at 1033 E Washington St, Central, Indianapolis, IN 46202.

The role covers cleaning, restrooms, flooring care, waste disposal, and setup for events. Applicants should be able to follow safety protocols and communicate with management as needed.

Responsibilities

Cleans office areas, classrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms/cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned work areas.Example Duties and ActivitiesCleans and disinfects the furniture and equipment.Polishes metalwork.Wipes down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.Washes windows, door panels, and sills.Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ashtrays.Transports trash and waste to the disposal area.Replenishes bathroom supplies.Communicates with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate and as needed.Transports small equipment or tools between departments.Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.Required CompetenciesDegree and Credential Requirements - NONE! Cleans and disinfects bathrooms with cleaning products. Is able to learn how to properly use janitorial tools and equipment including but not limited to dust cloths, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning chemical solutions.Floor Cleaning Equipment Expertise -Is able to operate and control riding and walk behind scrubbers and other floor care equipment, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to clean carpets and scrub hard floors.Other RequirementsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform essential job functions.Moderate to Hard Physical Work - is regularly required to walk and frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to dust, dirt, debris, and dust particles in the air. Will be regularly exposed to slippery floors and the moving mechanical parts of floor cleaning equipment.
