Job summary

Sonoma State University’s Hutchins School of Liberal Studies seeks qualified applicants for a pool of temporary, part-time faculty. Courses may include General Education offerings, teacher-track service courses, and seminar-based major core courses taught face-to-face, hybrid, or online.

Applicants should have an MA or MS and at least one year of college-level teaching using Socratic seminars, with the ability to engage undergraduates from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.

Qualifications

• MA or MS in arts, humanities, social or sciences; applied degrees considered.
• At least 1 year of college-level teaching using Socratic seminars.
• Disciplinary expertise aligned with LIBS course emphases (Ethnic Studies, American Studies, History, etc.).
• Ability to lead seminar discussions and work with undergraduates of varying proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Teach General Education courses (LIBS 204, Ethnic Studies, Story, Film) in face-to-face, hybrid or online formats.
• Teach teacher-track service courses (LIBS 304, LIBS 308, LIBS 312, LIBS 327, LIBS 330, LIBS 392).
• Lead seminar courses in core areas (Society and Self; The Individual and the Material World; The Arts and Human Experience; Consciousness and Reality).
• Provide Writing Intensive instruction and mentorship to students.
