A local educational institution is seeking a part-time instructor for high voltage protection systems. The role involves teaching courses on substation safety, operation, and related topics in various settings. Candidates should have 3 years of experience maintaining high voltage equipment and a high school diploma is required. Flexible scheduling is available, based on enrollment needs.
Part-Time Instructor, Substation Relay Technician will provide instruction in maintenance and operation of high voltage protection systems and distribution equipment in multiple environments including classroom, indoor and outside lab settings. Course work and on-the-job training include, but not limited to: Introduction to Substations (overview, circuit breakers and disconnects, transformers, regulators, relays, conductors, metering); Substation Safety (OSHA, MSDS, electric and magnetic fields); Substation Construction (equipment installation, control house, wiring installation, DC systems); and Substation Operation (communication equipment, system operation, automation, protection, testing), and other related topics.
The instructor should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office, classroom workspace, and a lab setting; and working closely with others.
The instructor must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work and learning environment.
Environmental Conditions: The instructor should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office, classroom workspace, and a lab setting; and working closely with others.
Physical Conditions: Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, climbing stairs, mounting and dismounting from vehicles, moderate lifting and carrying of objects, 75+ pounds, general manual and finger dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens. Outdoor exposure to weather and hazardous conditions will occasionally occur. The instructor is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the instructor must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling Conditions: This is a part-time position, with availability of contract hours and scheduling (day/evening/online) dependent upon enrollment needs each semester.
Traveling Conditions: Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be required.
3 years of experience in maintaining high voltage equipment in a distribution system is required. Teaching and/or training experience preferred.
High school Diploma required. Associate Degree preferred.
