Part-Time Instructor, Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (Pediatric Focus). This is a position we anticipate filling for future semesters. Specific part-time teaching needs for future semesters may not be known until the end of class registration.

Position Title Part-Time Instructor, Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (Pediatric Focus)

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty facilitate student learning and participate in efforts to improve student success. As learning facilitators, faculty assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness. As professionals, faculty adhere to ethical standards (e.g., NEA, State of Michigan) and maintain licensure/certifications where applicable. Key responsibilities include collegial responsibilities, active participation in the College’s operational success, communication, and safety.

Specific Teaching Assignment

Faculty member will be responsible for teaching lecture and/or laboratory portions of pediatric interventions and other courses in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program, adhering to the stated course objectives, content and delivery as part of the approved program curriculum.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  1. Graduate of an ACOTE-accredited program for occupational therapy or occupational therapy assistants.
  2. Associate’s Degree in OTA with a Bachelor’s degree in a health care related field or education, or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. Educational credentials must be from accredited institutions.
  3. At least three years of recent, relevant, full-time clinical experience in pediatrics and pediatric interventions.
  4. If candidate is an OT, has one to two years of experience working with Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  5. Currently credentialed as an OTR or COTA. Per Perkins grant requirements, incumbents must provide proof of licensure/credential and maintain it as a condition of employment.
  6. Current Michigan licensure in Occupational Therapy (OTR or COTA) or eligible for Michigan licensure prior to hire.
  7. Evidence of continuing professional development.
  8. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission and philosophy.
  9. Innovative, flexible and positive teaching style with an understanding of diverse student backgrounds.
  10. Language Skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret business materials; write reports and procedure manuals; present information to groups.
  11. Mathematical Skills: ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions; work with probability and statistics.
  12. Reasoning Ability: problem solving and interpretation of instructions in various formats.
  13. Technology Skills: ability to integrate computer applications into teaching.
  14. Other Skills: apply current research and theory to instructional program; plan and implement lessons; establish collegial relationships; strong oral and written communication.
  15. * A foreign degree must be certified at the candidate’s expense by a professional evaluation service.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  1. Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or related health care field from an accredited institution.
  2. Teaching experience at the community college level.
  3. Familiarity with computer-based instruction, distance learning, learning technologies, competency-based instruction and modularized courseware.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Unique Aspects of Job: Fast-paced environment with multicultural students. For clinical requirements, incumbents must maintain health records, immunizations, annual TB testing, and CPR/BCLS certifications.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move and be mobile around campus; read, analyze, and interpret needs; use computer programs; present information; tolerate exposure to chemicals and wear PPE as required.

Work Schedule

Faculty are required to be available as outlined in the faculty CBA and will make additional provisions for student consultations as necessary and reasonable.

Additional Information

Must be available to teach onsite; opportunities do not exist to teach online courses only.

This is a position we anticipate filling for future semesters. Specific part-time teaching needs for future semesters may not be known until the end of class registration.
