Job summary

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty to provide high-quality instruction and student support across day, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of the District's colleges.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis with emphasis on equity, student success, and academic excellence, and instructors are expected to deliver engaging, inclusive instruction while meeting course outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in Labor Studies / Labor Relations.
  • Associate degree and six years of professional experience in Labor Studies / Labor Relations.
  • Understanding of and respect for diverse backgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved outlines and outcomes.
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction using evidence-based practices.
  • Develop and maintain syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance timely and equitably and maintain accurate records.
  • Submit grades and reports by deadlines.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful learning environment for diverse students.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respond to inquiries.
  • Utilize the District's LMS and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
  • Comply with District policies, bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and regulations.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, and college activities as needed.

Job description

Class Purpose

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty members to provide high-quality instruction and student support in accordance with the District's mission of advancing equity, student success, and academic excellence. Part-time faculty are responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction that promotes student learning and achievement while supporting the diverse educational goals of the District's students.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of the District's colleges.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable manner and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Submit grades and other required reports by established deadlines.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Utilize the District's learning management system and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
  • Comply with District policies, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, and other college activities as appropriate for part-time faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of any bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in Labor Studies / Labor Relations, OR
  • Possession of any associate degree and six years of professional experience in Labor Studies / Labor Relations.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community.
Supplemental Information
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Applicants are required to demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts and providing a complete and detailed record of relevant professional work experience in their application materials.

The District will review education and work history to determine whether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made in accordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures. Official transcripts and additional verification of employment will be required upon offer of employment.

If experience is required in lieu of a master’s degree:

For disciplines requiring a degree and professional experience, applicants must clearly describe how their education and work experience meet the stated minimum qualifications.

Equivalency

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly may apply for equivalency. Equivalency determinations are made through a separate review process in accordance with District procedures.

The Equivalency Committee will consider only those applicants who formally request equivalency consideration by submitting the Completed Equivalency Request Form. The form should be submitted to mchandra@peralta.edu before the application close date.
