Job summary

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) seeks qualified adjunct instructors to support our criminal justice courses. Faculty responsibilities include delivering high‑quality instruction, grading, and maintaining accurate records to meet program outcomes.

Hours vary by term and enrollment; applicants must bring practical experience in corrections or related fields and hold at least an associate degree. This pool is not a guarantee of employment, and openings are filled as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in corrections, detention operations, or related field.
  • Experience teaching in a corrections academy, detention center, or higher education environment.
  • Currently certified by NM Law Enforcement Academy as General Police Instructor, Master Instructor, or Professional Lecturer.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, teach, grade, and assess student learning in assigned courses.
  • Create a quality learning environment for diverse student populations.
  • Maintain student records and documentation within college timelines.
  • Utilize technology to access input and manage student records and processes.
  • Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
  • Structure classes to align with program and course outcomes.
  • Distribute and use instructional materials and media.
  • Convene classes as scheduled and respond to inquiries.
  • Attend required meetings and in-service sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary CNM faculty are vital to the College’s vision of “changing lives, building community.” This vision is evidenced by a commitment to teaching and learning that supports our goals of student success, increased student retention, and improved graduation rates. Faculty are responsible for providing high quality instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners so that each student may meet course outcomes and achieve their educational goals. An instructor is responsible for providing high quality instruction so that each student may meet course outcomes. Collaborate with the Dean and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Being hired into the regular part-time instructor pool is not a guarantee of employment. Classes are assigned on an as-needed basis. Hours will vary each class and by term. The number of openings for instructors is dependent upon student enrollment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning in courses assigned.
  • Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs.
  • Maintain student records and provide documentation for in-completes within established College timelines.
  • Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes.
  • Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
  • Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes.
  • Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate.
  • Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries.
  • Assist students outside the classroom through posted office hours.
  • Attend in-service sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years recent professional experience in corrections, detention operations, community corrections, probation and parole, or a closely related criminal justice field.
  • Experience teaching in a corrections academy, detention center, law enforcement academy, military, or higher education environment.
  • Currently certified by the NM Law Enforcement Academy as a General Police Instructor, Master Instructor, or Professional Lecturer.
Preferences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in curriculum development and review.
  • Experience in one or more specialized corrections disciplines such as inmate management, classification, booking and release, transportation, report writing, defensive tactics, use of force, crisis intervention, PREA, emergency response, or correctional leadership.
