Job summary

CNM Central New Mexico Community College invites applications for a limited-term, part-time instructor in the School of Liberal Arts. Classes are assigned as needed, with hours varying by term and enrollment. Successful candidates will teach for diverse student populations and maintain records under CNM timelines.

The role requires a Master’s in a relevant field and prior college teaching experience. Faculty collaborate with the Dean to improve learning outcomes and student success.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Communication Studies, Speech Communication, Journalism, or related field.
• Minimum of two semesters of college instructional experience in lower division Communication courses OR documented successful completion of college classroom teacher training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, teach, grade, and assess student learning in assigned courses.
• Create a quality learning environment for diverse students including those with disabilities.
• Maintain student records and documentation within college timelines.
• Use technology-based programs to access and input student records and processes.
• Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
• Structure classes to align with program and course outcomes.
• Distribute and utilize instructional materials and media as appropriate.
• Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries.
• Attend required in-service sessions and department meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Faculty are responsible for providing high quality instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners so that each student may meet course outcomes and achieve their educational goals. An instructor is responsible for providing high quality instruction so that each student may meet course outcomes. Collaborate with the Dean and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Being hired into the regular part‑time instructor pool is not a guarantee of employment. Classes are assigned on an as‑needed basis. Hours will vary each class and by term. The number of openings for instructors is dependent upon student enrollment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning in courses assigned.
• Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs.
• Maintain student records and provide documentation for in‑completes within established College timelines.
• Utilize a variety of technology‑based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes.
• Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
• Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes.
• Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate.
• Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries.
• Assist students outside the classroom through posted office hours.
• Attend in‑service sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Master's Degree in Communication Studies, Speech Communication, Journalism, or related field.
• Minimum of two semesters of college instructional experience in lower division Communication courses OR documented successful completion of college classroom teacher training.

Preferences:

• Experience teaching at institutions with diverse student populations or experience working in educational programs focused on marginalized communities.
• Experience as an instructor of record in post‑secondary teaching environment.
• Experience teaching public speaking and interpersonal communication.
• Experience with current issues, trends, and developments in communication studies instruction.
• Experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods including lecture, collaborative learning, and individualized instruction.
• Experience teaching in hybrid or online teaching in either synchronous or asynchronous modes
