The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) is a self-supporting unit within the University of California, funded through fees collected from a diverse student population. Part-time instructor positions are on a course-by-course contracted basis, NOT faculty positions.
Online teaching positions are available in the "Introduction to Biosafety as a Career" Specialized Studies Program. We seek qualified applicants with current knowledge and/or teaching experience in Biosafety and/or Biorisk Management.
Our curriculum is updated regularly to ensure relevance and practical application for students' careers. Courses are taught by qualified practitioners and focus on current issues and real-world application.
This is an ongoing recruitment. We accept applications year-round for instructor positions as needs arise, specifically for courses starting in Fall 2025.
Introduction to Biosafety as a Career is the first in a two-part certificate for professionals in life sciences and students entering biosafety. It covers biosafety principles, laboratory biosecurity, risk assessments, laboratory types, controls, microorganism risk groups, biosafety levels, and compliance. By course end, students will have a foundational understanding of biosafety practices and regulations.
Basic: Advanced degree or Bachelors plus 2+ years in biosafety or biorisk management.
Additional: Proficiency in biorisk management, high academic standards, strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, proficiency in instructional technology, and comfort working with international students and professionals.
Preferred: Curriculum design experience, college-level teaching or equivalent, biosafety professional experience, active professional memberships, and certifications such as RBP, CBSP, IFBA, BSAA.
