Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a Part-time Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy department under pharmacist supervision. The role covers inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, and medication histories across 16 hours per week, rotating between 1st and 2nd shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification required within one year of hire.
• No criminal history related to drug work; must pass background check.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and learn technician skills quickly.
• Must be able to learn effective written and verbal communication, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency typing and basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, assists with inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, and medication histories.
• Processes medication orders including taking refills, entering orders, and preparing medications for pharmacist check.
• Delivers supplies, maintains records, and contributes to error reduction in medication handling.
• May assist with bulk compounding and preparation of IV solutions.

Description

This is a Part-time Inpatient Pharmacy Technician position that will work 16 hours per week. This position will rotate between 1st and 2nd shift.

Under pharmacist supervision, supports the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Assists with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Key job duties may consist of handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, distributing supplies. May assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. Works with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
