Job summary

Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California is seeking a Special Education Assistant I (IEP) for immediate start. The role supports students with special needs under supervision, including instructional tasks, equipment use, and social behavior development.

Work days are Monday through Friday, six hours daily, with a 193-calendar-day schedule. Eligibility includes a high school diploma and 48 college units or AA degree, or a passing proficiency exam.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and either 48 college units or an AA degree.
• Passing CBEST or proficiency exam may be required; HR will email testing link if needed.
• Successful completion of IA Proficiency Examination and/or appropriate certification is desirable; two trainings within six months.

Responsibilities

• Communicate regularly with instructional team regarding daily student performance.
• Assist students with special needs individually or in groups.
• Assist with special equipment or instructional media use.
• Assist with tests and assessments for students with special needs.
• Promote social interaction and positive behaviors using reinforcement techniques.
• Assist with loading/unloading from buses and transfer to classrooms and events.
• Supervise snack, lunch, and outdoor activities; support diverse student needs.
• Maintain records and perform clerical duties related to special education programs.
