Responsibilities and Duties

WHO/WHAT:There are only so many hours in a week, and this busy Pittsburgh executive would rather spend his outside of work enjoying a well‑run home than managing the never‑ending list of things required to keep one that way. He is looking for an experienced Housekeeper/Cook who can take ownership of the day‑to‑day care of his home—keeping it consistently clean and organized, staying ahead of household needs, and making sure there is something delicious waiting for dinner.

This is a long‑term, part‑time, live‑out position. The household consists of one person with occasional guests, and the right candidate will be experienced, reliable, discreet, fluent in English, and comfortable working independently. Initiative, good judgment, and follow‑through are important. This is a high‑trust role for someone who notices what needs to be done without requiring constant direction, while also respecting the executive’s preferences and keeping belongings in their established places. The executive is currently located in downtown Pittsburgh, with an anticipated move to the Squirrel Hill area by late October.

THE JOB:

The goal is simple: create a home that is consistently clean, orderly, well stocked, and cared for. Regular responsibilities will include thorough housekeeping throughout the home, including cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, floors, surfaces, and dusting; making beds and straightening rooms; managing household laundry and linens; organizing closets, cabinets, and supplies; monitoring and replenishing household essentials; receiving deliveries; coordinating service professionals as needed; and handling occasional household errands. A separate cleaning crew may handle the initial heavy cleaning of the new home, but the long‑term goal is for the Housekeeper/Cook to maintain the home thoroughly enough that a regular outside cleaning service is no longer necessary. Organization will also be an important part of the role. The right person naturally notices when something needs attention and takes care of it, while being thoughtful about maintaining the executive’s established systems and preferences.

AND THEN THERE’S DINNER:

The executive would like approximately five dinners each week, primarily for one person with occasional adjustments for a guest. No elaborate restaurant‑style cooking is required. Think fresh, healthy, delicious everyday meals that can be prepared ahead when appropriate and safely refrigerated or frozen for later. The Housekeeper/Cook will help with meal planning, prepare grocery lists and/or complete the shopping, cook the meals, clean up afterward, and provide clear reheating instructions when needed.

MOVING DAY (AND THE DAYS AROUND IT):

If the right person is hired before the anticipated move, there will be an opportunity for additional hours helping prepare the current apartment and settle into the new home. This may include organizing, sorting belongings under the executive’s direction, packing and labeling appropriate household items, coordinating with professional movers as needed, and then helping unpack and organize the new home. Professional movers will handle furniture and heavy lifting. These temporary moving responsibilities would be completed during additional, mutually agreed‑upon hours.

A FEW EXTRAS:

There is one dog who may stay at the home occasionally but will not be a full‑time resident. Candidates should be comfortable with a dog being around and willing to take him for an occasional walk when he is staying at the home. The executive also travels periodically. During these times, the Housekeeper/Cook will continue to maintain the home, including thorough housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, preparing approximately five dinners per week, and periodic apartment checks to ensure everything remains in order and promptly alert the executive to any concerns.

You’re someone who genuinely enjoys creating a clean, organized, welcoming home—and you don’t need someone standing beside you with a checklist to make that happen. You notice things. You follow through. You show up when you say you will. You communicate clearly, exercise good judgment, and ask thoughtful questions when needed. Once you learn how something is done or where something belongs, you remember it. You are also a genuinely good home cook who can confidently plan and prepare healthy, everyday meals.

Most importantly, you understand the trust involved in working inside someone’s home. You are discreet, professional, dependable, and comfortable working independently. You know how to take initiative while also respecting someone else’s preferences, belongings, and established systems.

The goal isn’t simply to check off a list of chores. It’s to become the trusted person who keeps the household running smoothly behind the scenes.

SCHEDULE:

Because this position includes thorough housekeeping, laundry, household management, and preparation of approximately five dinners each week, the workload and guaranteed hours can be reviewed after the first month in the new home to make sure the schedule realistically accommodates the full scope of the position.
