Nason Medical Center

Description

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a part-time Housekeeper within our EVS Department. This position is responsible for performing a variety of environmental service activities, as assigned, to keep the building operating as cleanly, efficiently, and effectively as possible. Duties include, but are not limited to, housekeeping/facility cleaning activities and laundry/linen duties to provide a sanitary and aseptic environment for patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is a 45-bed hospital that serves rural and suburban populations in Roaring Spring, Altoona, and parts of Blair, Bedford, and Huntingdon counties. Caring for the community since 1900, Conemaugh Nason Medical Center prides itself on providing safe, high quality, compassionate care.

Essential Functions:

Housekeeping:

1. Performs housekeeping and laundry duties according to established policy and procedures evidenced by annual competency assessment and frequent supervision.
2. Performs daily cleaning routines and assembles necessary cleaning supplies and equipment.
3. Prepares germicidal solution according to label instructions.
4. Reports lack of supplies, faulty equipment, etc. to Director of E.S. immediately.
5. Completes individual employee Task/Routine Completion Sheet at the end of shift.
6. Completes all cleaning and preparation of discharge units before end of shift.
7. Washes sinks/commodes and other plumbing fixtures and replaces disposables such as gloves, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper.
8. Removes and replaces cubicle curtains and cleans vertical blinds as assigned or needed.
9. Removes shades from light fixtures for cleaning and replaces them as assigned.
10. Doodle dust, wet mop floors as assigned daily.
11. Vacuum and spot clean carpets daily.
12. Washes walls and ceilings using a wall mop with no deviations from basic cleaning procedures.
13. Safely cleans windows, door frames, TVs and other high places using a ladder, when necessary, as assigned with no deviations from basic cleaning procedures.
14. Moves furniture, beds, supplies, etc. as instructed, utilizing proper body mechanics.
15. Cleans vertical and horizontal surfaces that collect dust with no deviations from basic cleaning procedures.
16. Checks all rooms and areas of cleaning before leaving to assure maximum cleanliness.
17. Scrubs laundry floor as per cleaning frequency schedule.
18. Performs isolation room cleaning as per departmental instructions and procedures, interim and terminal.
19. Handles isolation bags/linens and isolation room garbage with no deviations from Infection Control Policies/Procedures.
20. Promotes a safe environment using Wet Signs.
21. Demonstrates understanding of and utilizes detergents, disinfectants, and finishes as per instruction on labels.
22. Terminal cleaning of OR rooms.
23. Trash removal in designated areas.

Laundry (if cross-trained):

1. Loads washers using ECHOLAB system as per instructions and training and assures appropriate environment of water temperature.
2. Safely operates and cleans laundry equipment.
3. Cleans and turns dryers on per manufacturer instructions and dries linen according to applicable item and per policy/procedure.
4. Safely turns off dryers, cleans dryer screens daily and removes lint from back of dryer.
5. Separates linen to be mended from other linens. Separates linens according to departments.
6. Checks linens to ensure quality/cleanliness daily. Make sure all linens are dried and folded properly.
7. Loads and covers all linens being transported and delivers linens according to proper count.

Job Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Work Experience: Previous experience in institutional housekeeping cleaning preferred.
