Job summary

Forefront Dermatology is seeking a Histology Technician, Uncertified, in Oklahoma City to process tissue specimens and prepare slides for microscopic examination. The role supports QA/QC, maintains equipment, and ensures compliant documentation across CLIA requirements.

You will accession, receive, process, and spend time on slide labeling and analysis, under oversight, with opportunities to handle grossing as eligible, while maintaining a fast-paced, collaborative lab environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required and NAACLS histology training completed.
• CLIA requirements experience or training preferred; specific hour requirements may apply.
• Must be proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to learn new software.
• 60 semester hours with chemistry/biology and three months lab training in high complexity testing by specialty.

Responsibilities

• Accession and receive tissue specimens.
• Prepare tissue specimens for processing and microscopic examination.
• Perform grossing/inking as allowed by CLIA.
• Prepare media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
• Process tissue embedding, microtomy, staining, cryostat use, and freezing.
• Label and prepare slides; examine slides for abnormalities; report findings.
• Identify problems affecting diagnosis with oversight; preserve/store samples.
• Maintain instruments, equipment and work areas; log and QA/QC documentation.
• Adhere to compliance training and perform other related duties.

Overview

The Histology Technician, Uncertified, processes tissue specimens, prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examination, maintains equipment, and ensures Agency-compliant documentation and inventory management.

Schedule: 25 hours, Thur & Fri, 7:30am -4:30pm

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Accession tissue specimens.
• Receive and prepare tissue specimens.
• May perform grossing and inking (dependent on meeting CLIA requirements).
• Prepare media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
• Process tissue, embedding, microtomy/cutting, staining, use cryostat, freezing.
• Label and prepare slides.
• Examine slides under the microscope to detect deviations from the norm and report abnormalities.
• With oversight, identify problems that may affect diagnosis and results.
• Preserve and store samples.
• Clean and maintain instruments, equipment, and work areas.
• Log, file, track, and store specimens and slides.
• Maintain lab supplies inventory.
• Maintain documentation in all Agency-required and clinic or lab-preferred QA/QC logs.
• Adhere to compliance and completion of compliance training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate’s degree required.
• Completion of NAACLS histology training program required.
• CLIA requirements to perform specified job duties, preferred:
  • A minimum of 60 semester hours with: 24 hours in medical lab technology OR 24 hours with (6-chemistry, 6-biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination AND three months documented lab training in high complexity testing by specialty.
• Previous experience as a histology technician preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be knowledgeable in standard concepts, practices, and procedures, with a strong understanding of anatomy and tissue pathology.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of integrity, ethical judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Must be able to learn new software quickly.
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, leadership, and the public.
• Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
