Job summary

Grand Rapids Community College is seeking a part-time Professional Tutor (Mathematics) for the Promise Zone Tutoring and Learning Center. The tutor will provide direct tutoring to high school students (grades 9-12) and help oversee center operations, with work available in Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.

The role requires knowledge of Algebra 1–Pre-Calculus, experience tutoring, and the ability to work with diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher preferred.
• Demonstrate content knowledge of tutoring areas.
• Experience teaching/tutoring students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small group tutoring in content-specific courses in face-to-face or online formats.
• Demonstrate proficiency with high school curriculums (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus).
• Assist the Tutorial Coordinator with the operation of the center.
• Help supervise, train, and mentor student tutors.
• Maintain rapport with students, staff, faculty, and administration.
• Promote academic success and independent learning.
• Assist with management and security of resources.
• Attend meetings and trainings as requested.
