Job summary

Anchorage School District seeks a part-time High School Counselor (.5 FTE) at SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL to support a comprehensive developmental counseling program for students. The counselor collaborates with staff, parents, and the community to promote academic success and provide education, prevention, early identification and intervention, reporting to the site principal.

A valid Alaska Type C certificate with the appropriate endorsement is required; the position is 185 work days with retirement

Qualifications

• Valid Alaska Type C certificate with endorsement as a school counselor, guidance and counseling, or school social work.
• Completion of a school-based counseling internship with school age children.

Responsibilities

• Schedules students into appropriate academic course placements.
• Provides career and educational counseling.
• Acts as a student advocate.
• Counsels individuals and small groups toward social and emotional resiliency.
• Consults with parents and other family members on individual student needs.
• Acts as a liaison among school staff, parents and public or private agencies.
• Conducts parent group meetings and workshops.
• Provides in-service training to all staff to assist them with planning and implementing interventions for adolescents to maximize development.
