Job summary

The Anchorage School District is seeking School Counselors to join a team committed to a caring climate and a comprehensive developmental counseling program for students in the Anchorage area.

Position requires a valid Alaska type C certificate and completion of a school-based counseling internship. Responsibilities include academic planning, career guidance, student advocacy, collaboration with staff, parents, and community to promote student success.

Qualifications

• The following are required: Alaska Type C Special Services certificate with endorsement as a school counselor, guidance and counseling, or school social work.
• Completion of a school-based counseling internship with school age children.

Responsibilities

• Schedules students into appropriate academic course placements.
• Utilizes counseling techniques for diverse functioning levels.
• Provides career and educational counseling.
• Acts as a student advocate.
• Implements prevention guidance curriculum through classroom lessons.
• Supports and reinforces the role of the classroom teacher.
• Serves as a consultant to staff and parents.
• Counsels individuals and small groups toward social and emotional resiliency.
• Consults with parents and other family members on student needs.
• Acts as a liaison among school staff, parents and agencies.
• Conducts parent group meetings and workshops.
• Provides in-service training to staff on interventions for adolescents.
