Job summary

CSN is seeking a part-time Herbarium Assistant to support day-to-day operations, including mounting, databasing, and collection management for teaching and research. You will assist classes and visiting researchers by retrieving and sorting specimens, and you will help update taxonomy to reflect current sources used in BIOL 331.

The role involves supervising students and volunteers in preparation and labeling, and supports the collection manager with event planning. Applications close 2027-06-30.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting herbarium operations or similar collections is a plus.
• Ability to organize and file specimens for long-term access.
• Strong attention to detail in labeling and curation.

Responsibilities

• Mount and database incoming specimens, file them to expand the research collection.
• Retrieve specimens for Botany and Biology classes and visiting researchers.
• Sort specimens based on instructor needs for quizzes and in‑class examples.
• Update taxonomy to reflect modern sources, especially the system used in BIOL 331.
• Interact with and assist visiting researchers.
• Supervise students and volunteers in specimen preparation and labeling.
• Assist the collection manager with event planning, including meetings and volunteer events.
