Job summary

North Kansas City Schools is seeking an Adult Education Instructor-GED Teacher to lead coursework toward completing the 4 GED sub-tests. Immediate starting date, part-time schedule, and district-wide responsibilities will include assessing progress, employing varied instructional methods, and maintaining clear communication with students and staff.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and strong confidentiality, motivation, and cross-cultural engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an approved institution.
• Knowledge of subject matter and ability to adapt teaching style to address the needs of all learners.
• Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must maintain confidentiality.
• Effective human relations and communication skills.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assess students on a regular basis to determine progress towards objectives and goals to verify learning.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of subject matter.
• Use a variety of teaching materials and strategies, including technology.
• Use instructional time effectively.
• Make regular contact with each student during class and maintain communication through approved channels outside of school.
• Demonstrate ability to motivate students and help them reach their goals.
• Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and positively with students.
• Listen and actively respond to learners’ needs and goals.
• Work positively and non-judgmentally with students of all cultures and social backgrounds.
• Provide students with specific evaluative feedback.
• Set high expectations for all students.
• Conduct a well-organized classroom that is conducive to learning.
• Demonstrate effective classroom control and manage student behavior in a positive and constructive manner.
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations with both students and staff.
• Attend certification workshops and other professional activities as required.
• Maintain an ongoing and active recruitment and retention plan.
• Keep all required state and local records up to date.
• Adhere to good safety practices.
• Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
• Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
• Other duties as required or assigned.
