Job summary

The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for Part-Time, Fulll-time, and substitute Instructional Support Aide positions. See the job description and requirements listed below. Wages are determined by the Collective Bargaining Unit, current Substitute Aide pay is $15.25/hour, Part time Aide pay rate is $18.64 (non-degreed) to $19.95 (degreed) per hour. ALL positions within the WASD require a minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.Pleasecontact the WASD Human Resources Office or email jobs@wasd.org for more information.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Basic Functions:

This position is primarily responsible for assisting the teacher in providing instructional services to students. Such assistance could be provided to students in regular education programs or students with special needs, which may include physical assistance, educational assistance, or both. May be required to provide assistance in the classroom, or specifically designated areas to include, but not limited to, computer labs, study halls, cafeteria and/or playgrounds. Work is performed under the supervision of a teacher (or professional staff member) and is reviewed while in progress and/or upon completion.

Education & Experience:

Subject to the provisions of No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, obtained an Associates (or higher) degree, or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics or to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. Requires previous experience and a desire to assist and work with students with various educational and physical needs. Licensed medical credentials will be required for designated positions.

This position requires participation in verbal de-escalation and non-violent physical crisis intervention training provided by the District or appropriate agency.

This position requires current first aid and CPR training when assigned to a personal care position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires demonstrated patience and the ability to relate to students, parents, and teachers in a manner that develops student confidence in benefiting from the educational process. Requires a demonstrated desire to assist and work with students who have various educational and physical needs. Has the ability to diffuse disruptive situations. Requires the ability to understand and adjust to changes in the educational environment. Knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures is required.

Authority & Responsibilities [(E) Designates Essential Functions]
  • Assists students on an individual basis answering questions, tutoring students (under teacher supervision), and providing physical assistance when necessary to assist the student in meeting his/her educational needs. (E)
  • Prepares instructional materials, bulletin board displays, audio visual material, and correction of examination papers (under teacher supervision). (E)
  • Assists in student control and relieves the teacher and or supervisor of routine non-educational duties. (E)
  • Assists in the supervision of cafeterias, playground areas, lunch areas, bus areas, libraries, computer labs, study halls, lavatories, and other areas as designated by the building principal. (E)
  • Performs duties to meet the personal care and non-medical health related needs (unless position is designated as requiring appropriate medical qualifications) of students with disabilities. (E)
  • Distributes and gathers materials, books, supplies and other materials as required for the student’s educational program or as instructed by the teacher. (E)
  • Performs basic clerical tasks including (but not limited to): typing, photocopying, etc.
  • Provides ability to provide assistance using non-violent, crisis procedures. (E)
  • Communicates effectively (orally and in writing) with administrators, staff, students and the public. (E)
  • Is able to speak and write in a clear and concise manner. (E)
  • Operates office equipment, including but not limited to, fax machine, copiers, computers, telephones, intercom systems, etc. (E)
  • Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E)
  • Requires 20 hours of professional development per year. (E)
  • Performs other related functions as directed by the Director/Supervisor of Special Education, building principal, or teacher.
Physical Requirements:

Heavy-Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction.

Equipment Used:

Office equipment such as computers, fax machines, telephones, copiers, etc.
