University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Web Application Developer for the Jewish Studies program on a temporary, part-time basis. The role focuses on advancing a digital humanities relational database and maintaining a web-based application with GIS features for research and learning.

The candidate will design, develop, and document software, work with cross-disciplinary teams, and ensure data integrity while delivering high-quality results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science with 2-3 years related experience or equivalent
• Full-stack development and unit testing experience
• Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS, AJAX/JavaScript/jQuery and browser compatibility
• Fluency in Python, Django, and React
• Experience with code versioning tools such as Git
• Experience gathering and responding to project requirements
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently to produce polished, high-quality results

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a web-based application using industry-standard frameworks.
• Gather project requirements, write and test software, and generate technical documentation.
• Support GIS visualizations and data set interactions.
