Job summary

Deerfield Academy is seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to assist in the dining hall under the Assistant Food Production Manager. The role involves service and preparation of food, with supervision from the Chef, Cook, Salad Bar Manager, or Special Events Chef.

You will help set up stations, prepare ingredients, and maintain cleanliness while adhering to food safety standards. The position supports both sit-down and cafeteria-style meals during the academic year.

Qualifications

• Completion of 12th grade or equivalent.
• ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• 1–3 years of food service experience.
• Knowledge of proper cooking methods.
• Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work with others.
• Demonstrated customer service skills.
• Ability to follow safety procedures with chemicals/equipment.
• Commitment to diversity and serving a diverse community.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain food stations, buffets, and beverage areas; keep areas clean and stocked.
• Clean, sanitize and maintain dining tables.
• Serve food for sit-down and cafeteria-style meals.
• Prepare ingredients for standardized recipes.
• Assist in cooking or cook under supervision various dishes.
• Use commercial kitchen equipment (ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers, slicers).
• Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas; adhere to food safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
