Job summary

The Juris Agency is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Assistant / Technician Apprentice to support tire mounting, chassis servicing, and routine maintenance on commercial trucks and intermodal chassis.

You will work alongside the Maintenance Manager, gaining hands-on experience and gradually taking on responsibilities in preventive maintenance, inspections, tire service, oil changes, basic electrical repairs, and related fleet maintenance work as your skills grow.

Qualifications

  • Mechanically inclined and eager to learn fleet maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to learn new maintenance and repair skills.
  • Comfortable working around semi-trucks, intermodal chassis, tires, and heavy equipment.
  • Able to safely perform physical work and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Safety-conscious and able to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with commercial truck and intermodal chassis tire changes.
  • Assist with removing, installing, inspecting, and organizing tires.
  • Grease intermodal chassis and truck fittings according to maintenance schedules.
  • Check tire pressure, tread condition, wear patterns, and visible tire damage.
  • Inspect chassis for obvious defects while performing maintenance.
  • Assist with oil changes, filter changes, and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Check engine oil, coolant, washer fluid, and other basic fluid levels.
  • Help prepare trucks and chassis for scheduled inspections and repairs.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager with routine repairs and maintenance.
  • Help identify damaged or worn chassis components.
  • Inspect lights, mudflaps, tires, airlines, fittings, and other visible components.
  • Assist with replacement of lights, mudflaps, and other basic components.
  • Pick up parts, tires, and maintenance supplies from local vendors.
  • Return incorrect, defective, or warranty parts when necessary.
  • Help maintain an organized inventory of commonly used parts and supplies.

Assist with mounting/removing tires and organizing tire inventory

Grease intermodal chassis on a scheduled rotation

Inspect chassis for obvious defects before/while servicing them

Assist with replacing lights, mudflaps and other basic components

Keep track of parts needed for scheduled repairs

Pick up and return parts from vendors

Assist with basic maintenance records after work is completed

This position offers a real opportunity to grow. You will work directly alongside our Maintenance Manager and gain hands‑on experience with commercial trucks and intermodal chassis. As your skills develop, you may take on additional responsibilities involving preventive maintenance, inspections, tire service, oil and filter changes, basic electrical repairs, air systems, brakes, suspension components, troubleshooting, and other fleet maintenance work.

We are looking for someone who wants to develop their skills and grow from a Fleet Maintenance Assistant / Technician Apprentice into a more capable fleet maintenance technician over time.

Responsibilities

Move and position equipment as needed to assist with maintenance work

Follow established safety procedures when working around trucks, chassis, tires, and shop equipment

Learn additional preventive maintenance, inspection, and repair skills as experience increases

Perform other reasonable fleet‑maintenance duties as assigned

Requirements

Mechanically inclined and interested in truck, trailer, automotive, or equipment maintenance

Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions

Willingness to learn new maintenance and repair skills

Comfortable working around semi-trucks, intermodal chassis, trailers, tires, and heavy equipment

Able to safely perform physical work throughout the shift

Able to lift and handle items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds

Comfortable bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, and working underneath or around commercial equipment

Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Valid driver's license

Reliable transportation to work

Basic familiarity with common hand tools

Personal basic hand tools are helpful but not required

Specialty tools and equipment needed for company maintenance work will be provided

Willingness to learn proper use of commercial tire and maintenance equipment

Acceptable driving record for employees who may operate company vehicles or pick up parts

Basic knowledge of hand tools

Good organizational skills

Attention to detail

Safety-conscious and willing to follow established procedures

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of assigned work

Preferred Experience

Previous professional maintenance experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.

Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:

Commercial truck or trailer maintenance

Intermodal chassis maintenance

Commercial tire service

Automotive repair

Diesel maintenance
