Job summary

The City of Riverside is hiring a Part-time Firefighter in Dayton, OH. Under a Fire Lieutenant, you will perform fire suppression, prevention, and basic EMS duties, with potential involvement in inspections and code enforcement as applicable.

The role requires EMT-Basic and Firefighter certification, plus a valid driver's license and physical fitness. You will participate in a shifted 24-hour schedule every 6th day, with incentive pay and allocated leave.

Qualifications

  • Must hold EMT-Basic certification from a recognized institution.
  • Level 1 or Level 2 Firefighter certification from an accredited program.
  • NIMS 100 and 700 training completed or in progress.
  • Pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls for fire suppression, EMS, and other incidents as required.
  • Safely suppress fires using standard procedures and equipment.
  • Provide basic life support as an EMT-Basic and stabilize patients.
  • Assist in rescue operations including extrication and water rescues when needed.
  • Maintain and inspect firefighting equipment, apparatus, and medical supplies.

Job description

Description

Under the direction of the Fire Lieutenant, the Part-time Firefighter performs specialized work with regard to protecting life and property through fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services and may assist with fire inspection and code enforcement duties related to the position of Fire Inspector.

Example of Duties
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies as required.
  • Firefighting: Safely and effectively suppress fires, including using firefighting equipment, techniques, and strategies to minimize property damage and protect lives.
  • Medical Assistance: Administer basic life support (BLS) medical care as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, including assessing and treating patients, performing CPR, and stabilizing injured individuals.
  • Rescue Operations: Participate in rescue operations such as extrication, confined space rescues, and water rescues when necessary.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of firefighting equipment, apparatus, and medical supplies to ensure readiness for emergency responses.
  • Training: Attend departmental training sessions, drills, and continuing education to enhance skills, maintain certifications, and stay updated with the latest firefighting and medical techniques.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the community through fire prevention education programs, public events, and station tours to promote fire safety and build positive relationships.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, patient care records, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Collaboration: Work with other firefighters, emergency personnel, and public safety agencies to ensure efficient and effective emergency response.
Required Qualifications
  • Level 1 or Level 2 Firefighter certification from an accredited training program.
  • EMT-Basic certification from a recognized institution.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical fitness and agility to perform the duties of a firefighter.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • NIMS 100 and 700.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Those committed to working a shifted (24 hours every 6th day) schedule will receive shifted incentive pay and time off to include: 54 hours of vacation, accrue sick leave at a rate of 3.23 hours per pay, and 16.8 hours of personnel leave a year!
