Brunswick County is seeking a Part Time Fire Inspector/Investigator to conduct fire inspections, perform plan reviews, and support fire investigations. Candidates should have an Associate degree in fire science or a related field and must meet specific certification requirements within designated timeframes. This position includes physically demanding duties and exposure to environmental conditions.
A Part Time Fire Inspector/Investigator will independently conduct state-mandated fire inspections as required by the North Carolina Fire Code, as well as perform plan reviews and field inspections for new construction projects. This position also responds to emergency scenes and provides technical support for fire origin and cause investigations, working closely with the Fire Marshal.

Work involves considerable walking, climbing, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in small or cramped areas, and using small hand tools. Inspections may require working at elevated levels on roofs, ladders, or lifts up to 25 feet. Duties include inspecting commercial buildings for life safety and fire protection, reading hazardous materials fire diamonds, examining electrical and alarm panel wiring, inspecting fire alarm systems, photographing hazards, issuing permits, entering data into computer systems, and driving a vehicle to inspection sites. The position involves exposure to atmospheric and environmental conditions, including fumes, dust, gases, and outdoor environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
