Job description

Description

At Trident Industries, our work supports critical infrastructure projects across the utility and energy sectors. We are seeking a Part-Time Field Services Inspector to provide field support for utility construction projects and serve as a trusted connection between field activity and the broader project team.

As a Field Services Inspector, you will serve as Trident's eyes and ears in the field. You will observe construction activities, document project progress and site conditions, review work against construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements, identify potential quality or construction concerns, and communicate important field information to the appropriate project stakeholders.

This position is well suited for candidates with utility, construction, inspection, field operations, or related experience who are interested in applying their knowledge in a part-time, field-based role. The ideal candidate brings strong field judgment, attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting changing project needs.

This is a highly field-based position requiring regular travel to assigned utility construction sites. Work locations may change based on project needs, and assignments may require extended travel or overnight stays. Candidates should be comfortable traveling to project locations and spending the majority of their scheduled working time in active field environments.

Why Trident Industries?

Make an Impact in the Field

Support critical utility infrastructure projects where accurate field observation, documentation, communication, and attention to quality directly contribute to successful project execution.

Work Where the Projects Are

Work directly around active utility construction projects and gain exposure to changing field conditions, construction activities, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Meaningful Field Responsibility

Our inspectors are trusted to independently observe construction activities, document project conditions, recognize potential concerns, and provide project teams with reliable information from the field.

Flexible Project Support

Part-time inspectors help Trident respond to changing customer and project needs while providing knowledgeable field support where and when it is needed.

As a Field Services Inspector, you will:

  • Observe utility construction activities and document work occurring at assigned project sites.
  • Review field activities against applicable construction drawings, specifications, work packages, project requirements, and established procedures.
  • Monitor and document contractor progress, workmanship, materials, equipment, site conditions, and significant construction activities.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely inspection reports, photographs, field notes, and required project documentation.
  • Identify potential construction deficiencies, discrepancies, quality concerns, material issues, access challenges, design conflicts, and changing field conditions.
  • Communicate inspection findings and emerging field concerns to Construction Supervisors, project teams, customers, contractors, and other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Serve as a field communication link between construction activity and the broader project team.
  • Assist Construction Supervisors and project teams with field coordination and construction progress tracking.
  • Observe field conditions and contractor work practices and communicate safety concerns through established project and safety processes.
  • Participate in applicable job briefings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and other field safety activities.
  • Support customer, third-party, and project-specific inspection activities as required.
  • Maintain organized project records and ensure field information is documented accurately and submitted according to project requirements.
  • Represent Trident professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, field crews, property owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Work independently while maintaining regular communication with appropriate Trident team members.
  • Travel to assigned project sites based on customer and project needs.
Travel & Scheduling Expectations

This is a part-time, field-based position. Work schedules, hours, and locations may vary based on project and customer needs.

Candidates should be prepared to:

  • Travel regularly to assigned utility construction sites and project locations.
  • Report directly to project sites when required.
  • Work at different locations as project assignments change.
  • Drive between project sites and work locations.
  • Stay overnight when project location, schedule, or travel distance requires it.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and terrain.
  • Maintain flexibility regarding field assignments and project schedules.
  • Communicate scheduling availability and limitations in advance.

Hours may vary based on project workload and customer needs. Part-time status does not eliminate the travel requirements associated with Field Services Inspector assignments.

Requirements
  • Previous experience in utility construction, construction inspection, field operations, QA/QC, construction oversight, utility work planning, contractor oversight, or a related field.
  • Experience with transmission, distribution, substations, underground utilities, or related infrastructure is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, field operations, project specifications, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, maps, and other project documentation.
  • Ability to recognize potential construction discrepancies, quality concerns, and changing field conditions.
  • Strong written documentation and field-reporting skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with contractors, customers, supervisors, field personnel, and project teams.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in field environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using mobile devices and electronic field-reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with JHAs, JSAs, hazard identification, and field safety practices.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to meet the travel requirements of assigned projects, including overnight travel when required.
