Join Our Team as a Part-Time Ferry Captain on Dewees Island!

Dewees Island is seeking a local part-time licensed U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain to operate our private ferry, which runs regularly between Isle of Palms and Dewees Island and transports residents and guests. This is more than just a captain’s job—it’s a chance to be part of a close-knit community and ensure safe, reliable transportation to our unique island dedicated to conservation.

What You’ll Do:

Safely pilot the ferry in compliance with US Coast Guard regulations.

Perform daily engine and equipment checks, ensuring vessels are in top condition.

Maintain accurate ship logs for trips, fuel, service, and more.

Train deckhands in emergency procedures, line handling, docking, and passenger safety.

Oversee ferry cleanliness, security, and passenger authorization.

Provide excellent customer service with a friendly and professional demeanor.

What We’re Looking For:

Valid US Coast Guard Master Captain’s license.

At least one year, preferably two, of vessel experience, including handling lines and maintenance.

CPR and first aid certification.

Strong knowledge of Coast Guard regulations, boating safety, and emergency response.

Physical ability to perform maintenance, handle emergencies, and swim.

A positive attitude, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.

This position requires a local candidate, as relocation is not an option.

Schedule:

Weekly rotation with morning shifts (Wednesday–Sunday) and evening shifts (Thursday–Sunday), including weekends and holidays.
