Part‑Time Faculty – Japanese

Portland Community College is accepting applications for part‑time faculty in Japanese. Applications are for a pool of instructors who may be selected for substitute or full‑term classes during the academic year.

Responsibilities

• Teach Japanese language courses to adult learners at the college level.
• Develop and deliver syllabus, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with current teaching methodology.
• Assess students’ progress, provide feedback, and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Engage students in the culture of the Japanese‑speaking world.
• Maintain accurate academic records and comply with college policies.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Japanese, or a related discipline such as Education, Linguistics, or Humanities.
• Evidence of Japanese proficiency (native or near‑native).
• Demonstrated knowledge of language teaching practices and assessment.
• Intercultural competence and the ability to teach about cultures of the Japanese‑speaking world.
• Completed a college‑level course on second‑language teaching methodology and communicative proficiency.
