Purpose of Position

The Writing Instruction Program (housed in the Department of English) is seeking part-time adjunct faculty for the 2024-2025 academic year. Faculty members might teach first-year writing or reading courses, including co-requisite courses with reading or writing support, and reading. These positions report to the Director of the Writing Instruction Program.

Primary Responsibilities

• Teach between three and nine hours (1-3 classes) of college writing and/or reading per semester.
• Provide support to students through office hours.
• Align assignments and curriculum with programmatic and university student learning outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in English or a closely related field (with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in English).
• Strong background in and evidence of teaching composition and reading and working with first-year students.
• Experience teaching co-requisite writing courses and/or teaching non-native speakers is desired, as is a commitment to intercultural competence and inclusive excellence.

The pay for a three-credit course varies slightly based on years of experience and education but is projected to be between $2700 and $3000 per course. The position is designed for candidates planning to seek permanent positions elsewhere. The department will provide mentoring, performance reviews, and support for continuing job searches.
