Job summary

South University seeks a part-time Anesthesiologist Assistant faculty member to teach didactic, laboratory, and simulation courses in the AA program. The selected candidate will help ensure students meet learning outcomes and assist with curriculum assessment for accreditation.

The role involves teaching, advising, curriculum development, and participating in admissions and program activities, with a maximum of 30 hours per week as defined in the Faculty Supplement.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree as an Anesthesiologist Assistant is required.
• 3 years clinical experience preferred; AA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite and ExamSoft.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The part-time faculty member (rank commensurate with experience)within the Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) Program is primarilyresponsible for didactic, laboratory, and/or simulation courseinstruction. It is expected that a faculty member will be effectivein the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation. Thefaculty member is instrumental in assisting the program to ensurethat students consistently meet the program’s Student LearningOutcomes to achieve competencies required for AA practice. Thefaculty member is guided by the Program Director and will assistthe program with curriculum assessment to meet the CAAHEPaccreditation Standards. The part-time faculty member works no morethan 30 hours per week with an assigned teaching workload according to department needs as defined in the Faculty Supplement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides teaching and instruction as dictated by the needs ofthe AA Program and assigned by the supervisor or designee.
2. Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professionalexpertise.
3. Providing instruction in laboratory and/or simulationcourses.
4. Providing academic advising as a Small Group Facilitator,Student Advisor, and facilitating remediation as needed.
5. Assists with curriculum development, which includes the designand implementation of the curriculum.
6. Assists with ongoing curriculum evaluation andimprovement.
7. Performs student evaluations of objective structured clinicalexaminations (OSCEs), lab practicals, as well as clinicalreasoning, problem-solving, and technical skills sessions.
8. Evaluates student performance of submitted assignments,including written clinical documentation and evidence-basedmedicine research.
9. Creates examinations for courses and maps exam questions toCAAHEP accreditation standards and the NCCAA ContentBlueprint.
10. Provides input to assist with accreditation activities, as wellas ongoing program evaluation and mission statement review. AttendsProgram Advisory Committee meetings.
11. Participates in the program's admissions process to includestudent recruitment, student evaluation (through application reviewand candidate interviews), and student selection meetings.
12. Engages in service, community and campus relations, andscholarly activities appropriate to the role of a Faculty(Part-time) member.
13. Participates in faculty development opportunities each year asrequired in the areas of teaching and academic administration.
14. Assists with clinical site development and clinical sitemonitoring.
15. Assists with other responsibilities as determined by theProgram Director and/or the Campus Dean of Academic Affairs.
16. Performs duties as assigned and outlined in the faculty jobdescription and in accordance with the provisions of FacultySupplement to the South University Employee Handbook.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Terminal Degree as an Anesthesiologist Assistant

Experience:

• 3 years clinical experience preferred
• Experience in AA/medical classroom teaching preferred.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal skills with student and staffpopulations.
• Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivationskills.

• Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite,ExamSoft.

• Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and workcollaboratively with other departments.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implementaccreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
• Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees,students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic orbusiness community.
• Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, students, etc.) andto understand and respond positively to their requests.
• Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiplepriorities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meetdeadlines.

License/Certifications:

• Current NCCAA Certification

• Eligibility for state licensure as an AA required.
