Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Clinical Nursing Instructor to join our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The ideal candidate will provide hands‑on clinical instruction to nursing students, ensuring they gain practical, evidence‑based experience in a variety of healthcare settings. The Clinical Nursing Instructor will mentor students, facilitate learning, and support the development of critical thinking and clinical skills essential for successful nursing practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Clinical Instruction: Supervise and instruct nursing students during clinical rotations in hospitals, community health settings, and simulation labs.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to nursing students, fostering their professional growth and development.
• Curriculum Implementation: Collaborate with faculty to align clinical experiences with the BSN curriculum and program objectives.
• Evaluation: Assess students’ clinical performance, provide constructive feedback, and assist in the development of their clinical competencies.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and clinical hours.
• Compliance: Ensure that clinical teaching adheres to regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as institutional policies.
• Professional Development: Stay current with advances in nursing practice, education methodologies, and healthcare policies to enhance clinical teaching effectiveness.
• Clinical Site Responsibilities: Be familiar and comply with agency policies and procedures.
• Complete all required agency training including, but not limited to electronic health records, HIPAA, medication administration and an orientation to the unit(s) prior to taking students.

Work Environment

The Clinical Nursing Instructor will work in clinical settings, including hospitals, clinics, and simulation labs. Travel between clinical sites may be required. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends depending on the clinical schedule is expected.

Physical and Emotional Qualifications

Visual acuity to allow for accurate observation and assessment of student performance.

Hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate technology and dexterity to demonstrate and perform nursing skills.

Consistent temperament capable of adapting, managing, and prioritizing multiple stressors simultaneously.

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with simulation‑based learning and virtual clinical education tools.

Experience in a variety of nursing specialties (e.g., medical‑surgical, critical care, maternal‑child health).

Strong knowledge of current healthcare trends and evidence‑based practices.

The ASU System limits adjunct faculty employment to a maximum of nine (9) total credit hours per academic semester across all ASU System institutions combined. Adjunct employees may not exceed this limit through appointments at multiple ASU System campuses. It is the responsibility of the employee to disclose all current and anticipated adjunct assignments within the ASU System to ensure compliance with this policy. Failure to comply with this limitation may result in modification or termination of adjunct appointments.

This position has been identified as a telecommuting position. The duties are performed during standard work hours of 8am-5pm at a predefined and approved work location. Individuals filling this role must have dedicated work space that provides privacy and security related to the work being performed. Additionally, individuals must have secure internet access with appropriate upload/download capabilities to perform the duties associated with the position. Individuals in this position will be required to review and acknowledge the Telecommuting Guidelines and Telecommuting Agreement for Henderson State University.

Minimum Qualifications

A BSN from an accredited or state‑approved nursing program, MSN preferred.

An unencumbered professional nursing license in Arkansas

Previous teaching or precepting experience in clinical settings preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience.

Proof of COVID, other immunizations, titers and evidence of yearly tuberculin skin tests may be required to teach at certain clinical partner sites.

Criminal history and background check clearance, evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training
