Job summary

Priority Pet Urgent Care in Hammond, LA seeks an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our new state-of-the-art clinic. You will perform animal restraint, triage, lab analysis, imaging, and nursing care for diverse cases, including anesthesia management and surgical support.

Weekend shifts are required; strong communication with clients and accurate medical records are essential. Growth opportunities and a collaborative team environment are offered.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional veterinary tech experience.
• ER/urgent care experience preferred.
• Punctuality and reliability with weekend shifts.
• Excellent client communication and medical record management.
• Knowledge of veterinary procedures, hospital operations.
• Experience in radiography and anesthesia monitoring.
• Ability to perform safe animal restraint.
• Proficiency with sample collection (blood, urine, fecal, skin).

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to: Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management. Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases. Qualifications

• An experienced veterinary technician, 2+ years professional experience required
• Previous experience in ER / Urgent Care is preferred but not required
• Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts
• Availability to work weekend shifts is required
• Excellent client communication and medical record management skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations
• Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques
• Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens
• Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture
• Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring
• Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18 - $20/hr. depending on level of experience
