Job summary

The Yankton School District 63-3 is seeking a maintenance/custodial worker to perform routine cleaning and upkeep across the district’s buildings.

The role requires a semi-skilled housekeeper who can learn cleaning materials and methods, follow instructions, and apply these skills under supervision of a head custodian. Duties include classroom cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and reporting major repairs.

Qualifications

• Education level is less than high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience desired is up to one month related experience or training.
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 75 pounds and climbing to high places; regular bending, standing, walking, and repetitive motions.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums classrooms, hallways, stairs and office space.
• Empties school trash and garbage containers.
• Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring and other related maintenance activities.
• Notifies management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
• Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.
• Other duties as assigned.

Criteria

A. Education Level: Less than high school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

C. Physical Requirements: Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing and stooping. Occasional climbing, crawling and reaching.
