Winslow House Care Center is a small, not-for-profit skilled nursing community located in the heart of Marion, Iowa. Cook:

Winslow House Care Center is currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Cook to join our culinary team. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in the overall satisfaction and well-being of our residents by providing nutritious and delicious meals.

Hours would be 1pm-8pm. This position would require availability of two to three evenings a week PLUS every other weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and dietary restrictions, ensuring that meals are appetizing and visually appealing.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Assist in meal planning and menu development, considering individual dietary needs and preferences.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely meal service.
  • Monitor food inventory, restocking supplies as needed and reporting any shortages or discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of special meals for events and celebrations.
  • Coordinate with the dining staff to ensure meals are served promptly and at the correct temperature.
  • Interact with residents, taking their feedback and preferences into consideration, to create a pleasant dining experience.
  • Manage portion control and minimize food waste, following budgetary guidelines.
  • Support and adhere to Winslow House Care Center's policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally cooking for the elderly, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to understand and accommodate specific dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to ensure efficient meal preparation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
