POSITION TITLE: Part-Time ESOL Instructor (Remote)

REPORTS TO: Director of Education Services

DEPARTMENT: Education Services

AVAILABLE CLASSES: AM (TBD)/ PM from 5:30- 8:30

SETTING: Virtual

DURATION: 8-Week Course

DATE: April 2025

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Temporary/Seasonal

Position Summary:

The Educational Services Department of Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio is offering ESOL classes online in the Greater Cincinnati, Hamilton and Springfield, OH communities. Each ESOL Instructor will have a specific course level and session assignment (s) for an eight-week session. Instructors will teach and facilitate online ESOL classes for students with limited English proficiency.

The Education Department will register and assign students based on English learning level to an eight-week course. Instructors will teach and support Adult English learners in the Venture program. Instructors will be present in their 8-week class session, teaching for 6 hours per class and having approximately 1 hour for preparation and follow-up for classes.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies that foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Create learning experiences that integrate multiple alternatives or emerging delivery methodologies and instructor technologies to maximize student success, including hybrid, face-to-face, videoconferencing, self-paced, and online course delivery.
  • Provide immediate, routine, and consistent feedback to students to assist them in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies.
  • Administer pretesting, placement assessment, and post testing (every 8 weeks).
  • Maintain proficient knowledge and skill in emerging trends by attending professional development opportunities offered by the Education Department.
  • Facilitate completion of required reporting and paperwork, PEP (personal education plans for students), student surveys, attendance, and pre-/post-test results.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education with TESOL endorsement; Master’s degree preferred with preference given in ESL, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL), Teaching English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Language Instruction.
  • Occupational experience: Minimum of one-year teaching experience; would consider candidates with student teaching experience in an ESL program.
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred.
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Demonstrated skill and sensitivity for diverse and immigrant populations.
  • Knowledge of language acquisition, language instruction, and English language learner best practices.
  • Candidates with successful teaching experience with minority students or in minority communities are preferred.
