Job Title: Part-time Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional (Hourly)

Job Summary:



The Division of Cardiology is seeking applicants for a part-time (maximum of 19 hours per week) Research Services Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional positionat the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology.


This position is for a professional to assist in performing biomedical research lab, with a focus on human induced pluripotent stem cell models, next-generation sequencing, and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. The position will also be tasked with working under guidance or as part of a team in the Division on various molecular and cellular biology experiments, including cell culture, immunostaining, and protein & nucleotide analysis.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Maintenance and preparation of tissue and cell cultures and provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.

  • Protein extraction, purification, quantification, sample digestion and peptide fractionation for mass spectrometry analysis.

  • Perform large-scale sequencing and/or proteomics experiments to measure protein turnover, localization, or secretion in human cell culture models such as human induced pluripotent stem cell systems and/or mammalian models

  • Design and execute transfection of genetic constructs in mammalian cell cultures to express proteins

  • Perform cell culture experiments including bioprinting of primary or secondary cells, or engineered heart tissue experiments to assess drug effects and toxicity.

  • Follow, document, and optimize experimental protocols and standard operating procedures.

  • Documentation of daily tasks, observations, and experimental findings.

  • Prepare reagents and other experimental materials.

  • Perform cellular biology and biochemistry experiments, including cell culture, immunostaining, immunoblots, PCR, protein analysis, and other experiments.

  • Order and log supplies and equipment.

  • Assist in maintaining tidiness, equipment, working environment, and safety of the laboratory.

  • Assist research staff, investigators, and collaborators.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.




Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.

  • Experience with data analysis on protein-protein interaction, and mass spectrometry-based proteomics.

  • Prior experience with scientific programming and statistics using R/Python.

  • Prior experience with large-scale bulk or single-cell RNA sequencing.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology.

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this part-time hourly position has been established as $22.25 - $28.29 per hour for a maximum of 19 hours per week.
