Job summary

The Salvation Army in Waterloo, IA is seeking a Part-Time Shelter Assistant (24 hours weekly) to support the Emergency Shelter Director with intake, supervision, and client services in a faith-based setting.

Responsibilities include supervising residents, distributing supplies, handling phones, administering breathalyzer tests, and maintaining safety and cleanliness. Must pass background checks and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
• Ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shelter operations and supervise residents per policy.
• Conduct intake interviews for new residents.
• Distribute bedding, meals and personal care items.
• Answer phones and take messages as appropriate.
• Maintain cleanliness and oversee volunteers; provide seasonal assistance.
• Administer breathalyzer tests and review logs.
• Do room inspections and enforce cleaning rules.
• Other duties as assigned.
