Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced emergency medicine clinician to provide high‑quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced ED setting.

You will assess, diagnose, and manage patients, coordinate admissions, discharges and follow-up, and perform pre‑procedure evaluations in collaboration with physicians and nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing (nurse practitioner pathway).
• National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers (nurse practitioner pathway).
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia (nurse practitioner pathway).
• American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant required (physician assistant pathway).
• Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program required.
• Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
• Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred.
• Eligible new graduates will be considered.
• ACNP or FNP considered.
• American Heart Association PALS certification encouraged.
• Masters level education as Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant preferred
• Proficiency with computers
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, position, stand, walk, and carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40+ pounds
• Ability to work protracted or irregular hours and around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment

Responsibilities

Job description

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered emergency medicine care as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team


• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients within scope of practice and specialty


• Manage comprehensive, individualized care for emergency medicine patients and families in the emergency department and immediate post-discharge ambulatory setting


• Coordinate hospitalization, discharge planning, referrals, follow-up procedures, and tests


• Complete pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments


• Order additional tests or consultations in collaboration with emergency medicine faculty or established guidelines and protocols


• Perform diagnostic tests and communicate results


• Consult with and communicate abnormal findings to clinic and hospital staff


• Document clinical evaluations, plans of care, interventions, and outcomes in medical records


• Identify unstable or complex situations and initiate appropriate emergency care


• Apply critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning to patient and family needs


• Educate nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and the community


• Complete clinical competencies and maintain current knowledge


• Serve as a resource and professional role model for staff


• Collaborate with leaders and staff on patient-outcome improvements and problem solving


• Support development and implementation of changes in emergency medicine practice


• Participate in interdisciplinary care, program development, education, committees, task forces, clinical trials, and research studies


• Document hours and submit billing reports as appropriate


• Review emergency medicine data and recommend or implement changes


• Perform other assigned duties and projects
