Job summary

The Department of Military Affairs is seeking an Emergency Communications Officer (Part-Time) in Blackstone, VA. This role supports Fort Barfoot with dispatching, public safety information, and coordination of emergency communications.

Hours average up to 29 per week and telework is restricted to emergencies. Minimum qualifications include knowledge of dispatch systems, emergency call handling, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Radio-Telephonic operations and procedures.
• Knowledge of Procedures used in operating Computer Aided Dispatch Systems.
• Knowledge of Policies and procedures of receiving and processing emergency calls.
• Knowledge of Specialized computer systems/software used in the Communications Department.
• Knowledge of Basic business arithmetic.
• Knowledge of Localized Geographic features and directional information.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch calls for police and emergency services.
• Provide medical information pending EMT arrival.
• Obtain criminal and driving histories via computer terminals.
• Provide courteous, prompt, accurate, and efficient information to callers.
