Job summary

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) is seeking Part-Time Teaching Assistants to support English Language Learners at the NWTC Marinette Campus. The role involves assisting instructors, guiding small groups and individuals, and helping students access digital learning tools.

Responsibilities include reinforcing material, developing suitable instructional materials, monitoring progress, and mentoring students toward their learning and career goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, linguistics, or a related field, preferred.
  • TESOL or TEFL certification.
  • Bi- or multi-lingual, to include English and Spanish.
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners in educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Follow NWTC ELL policies and procedures.
  • Work with individual ELLs or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist instructors by adapting materials to student levels.
  • Assist ELLs with digital learning in the classroom.
  • Monitor attitudes and confidence; notify instructors of concerns.
  • Advise and support students as a mentor and role model.

COURSE OFFERINGS: ELL Orientation, ELL Level Classes to include Levels 1-4

STANDARD HOURS: Flexibility in schedule is required for day, night or weekend classes as needed.

SALARY: $25.00 per class hour contracted

POSITION SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • FollowtheNWTCELLHandbook policiesandprogram procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to English Language programmingas part of the Wisconsin Technical College System.
  • Work with individual English Language Learnersor small groups of ELLs to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced byinstructors.
  • Assist the instructorin devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual ELLs, their needs, interests, and abilities; create and modify materials to match students’ English proficiency levels.
  • Assist ELLs with digital learning in the classroom.
  • Monitor ELLs attitudes and encourage confidence; notify the ELL instructor of any specific concerns.
  • Assist English Language Learners in understanding academic language, content, instructions, and expectations, under the directionthe instructor.
  • Perform various clerical duties as needed, maintain records of student progress;check daily attendance; make copies;maintain and operate the classroom equipment; maintain class files.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of instructors.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in professional development to support the English Language Learner program.
  • Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute instructor assigned in absence of the ELL instructor.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the ELL instructors and/or Associate Dean.
  • Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. This includes being accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time.
  • Provide educational leadership and work effectively with faculty, administration, and campus support staff.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will be discussed as needs arise.
