Job summary

National Heritage Academies seeks an English Language (EL) Teacher in Detroit, MI, to provide English language development instruction to EL/ML students. The role involves collaboration with classroom teachers, administering assessments, and ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.

The position is part-time and includes opportunities for professional development, coaching from an EL Curriculum Specialist, and attendance at evening parent conferences and school events.

Qualifications

• MI candidates should hold a valid MI teaching license for K-8 or 6-12 and an ESL or Bilingual endorsement when possible.
• Must be on an approved pathway toward licensure within three years.

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers lessons to promote students' English language development.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to support EL/MLs across content areas.
• Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress.
• Completes documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• Completes daily logs of student services.
• Attends regular Professional Development offerings.
• Be available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events.
• Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development.
• Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences.
• Possesses characteristics to advocate multilingual families within the school.
• Reads, analyzes, and interprets student academic data.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate with teachers, administration, and families.
• Additional duties as assigned.
